MC Eiht, King T, Kurupt, Jayo Felony, Tha Chill, Sir Jinx Recording "First Generation" Album

The latest super-group has been announced, and has videos in the can, with respected delegates from Compton, South Central and San Diego.

Details have surfaced this week that a California Hip Hop super-group is working on an album. Titled First Generation, the project is presently said to feature Comptons Most Wanted's MC Eiht and Tha Chill, King T, Tha Dogg Pound's Kurupt, and longtime Ice Cube and Kool G Rap producer Sir Jinx. With the bulk of the emcees from Compton and South Central, also joining the mix is San Diego's Jayo Felony.

MC Eiht revealed the news this week, on his newly-launched Twitter account. The emcee announced the group, and said that videos had been shot for "Killin' Me Softly" with another planned for "Keep It CPT."

Previously, MC Eiht was a member of The Warzone, a Snoop Dogg-backed group also consisting of Kam and Goldie Loc. The trio never released an album, despite several high-profile appearances.

Kanye West Booed In Chicago

The boo birds come out in Kanye's hometown.

Chicago may have had it with Kanye West's antics, as the emcee was booed by his beloved hometown on Thursday (February 24).

The United Center, home to NBA team the Chicago Bulls, was where the Def Jam Records superstar was booed when he was introduced to the crowd during the Bulls-Miami Heat game.

Tattletailzz.com speculates that Ye's recent Tweets about abortion were the source of the boos, but the emcee is no stranger to negative crowd response.

Most recently, the emcee was booed at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

He also received a similar treatment in 2008 at Bonnaroo for starting his set two hours late.

Rick Ross Signs Pill To Maybach Music Group, Speaks On Warner Deal

Rick Ross Signs Pill To Maybach Music Group, Speaks On Warner Deal

MMG absorbs one of Warner's hopefuls, as the third signing to the label in less than a month.

Atlanta, Georgia's Pill is the third artist signed to Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group in less than a month. Also a member of Killer Mike's Grind Time Rap Gang, Pill was already signed to Warner Brothers/Asylum Records since last year. The artist moved often to Maybach, after the imprint moved distribution from Def Jam to Warner on many of its artists over the weekend.
"This deal with Warner Bros. Records has been a long time in the making and I'm confident we've found the best home for Maybach Music,” Rick Ross said in a statement released moments ago. “Together we're going to make hit records for years to come.”

The present roster at Maybach Music Group includes Wale, Meek Mill, Triple C's and the label's founder, Def Jam's Rick Ross.

Buju Banton Convicted In Drug Conspiracy Case, Faces Up To 15 Years

Buju Banton Convicted In Drug Conspiracy Case, Faces Up To 15 Years

After winning a Grammy this past month, the Reggae singer now faces a long-term stint in prison over drug charges.

Reggae star Buju Banton was convicted on Tuesday in a Florida court on drug charges. He now faces up to 15 years in prison, stemming from three of four federal counts.

"Obviously, we are all upset and disappointed and emotional," said Banton's lawyer, David Markus, after the jury spent 11 hours deliberating the verdict. "The only person who seems to be okay is Buju. He told us he was happy that he fought, knowing he was innocent."

In 2009, the singer was arrested during a Drug Enforcement Agency sting operation after police claimed he tried to buy cocaine from undercover officials. Banton went to trial for the matter but the case was declared a mistrial when the jury failed to reach a verdict.

"Our life and destiny are sometimes pre-destined and no matter where this journey takes me, remember I fought the good fight," said Banton in a statement. "It was a great man that said 'my head is bloody but still unbowed.' I love you all, thank you for your support."

Buju Banton's contributions both politically and musically have been celebrated today in Jamaica, where radio stations continuously played his music. He also won a Grammy this past month for his album Before Dawn. Although he will likely make bail before his sentencing, it is not clear when the sentencing is scheduled.

Portland's Luck-One prepares to release his debut 'True Theory' with Architect Entertainment.

Luck-One to Release Debut Album 'True Theory'

It's been a long road for Portland, OR emcee Luck-One, but soon he'll finally get to see his work pay off. Architect Entertainment recently announced that they will be releasing the rapper's debut LP True Theory this March 22.

Although True Theory may be his official debut, Luck isn't a stranger to music. The rapper has been a classically trained musician since childhood, and was also a member of the now-defunct collective Seventh Science.

Luck and Seventh Science had actually been recording their debut album Live From the Underground when tragedy struck the Portland rapper. At the age of 17, Luck-One was arrested for robbery and gun charges and ended up serving over half a decade in prison.

While in prison, Luck dedicated himself to activist projects within the prison, organizing food strikes and even helping to break down the racial and political divides between other inmates. He also taught himself a second language and marketing and further honed his lyrical craft.

Just under a year removed from his release from prison, Luck-One linked up with producer Dekk for his debut free EP Beautiful Music. The project garnered acclaimed from critics and bloggers, including KevinNottingham.com. He has since gone on to release his second EP True Theory Outtakes this past October and has opened concerts for acts like the RZA, Game and others.

Loose Links: Snoop Dogg, C-Murder And Chicago's Hip Hop Aldermen

Snoop brings back a Chappelle's Show skit, LeBron helps resurrect a No Limit classic and three Chicago political candidates apply their Hip Hop backgrounds.

The day back from a three-day-weekend is always rough. But whether you had to work through the holiday or are just glad to be that much closer to another weekend, there’s plenty of entertaining stuff circulating through cyberspace to bring Friday (a/k/a Dead President’s Day) that much closer.

Snoop Channels Dave Chappelle

Remember the old Chappelle’s Show skit about “Great New York Boobs?” Well, we’re sort of a family site, so while we can’t run it here, you can Google it. In the meantime, it appears Snoop Dogg got nostalgic for Chappelle’s Show and re-enacted a few of Dave’s breast moments from the iconic sketch comedy show. This clip is obviously not safe for work, but Snoop’s running commentary on the female audience members dumb enough to show their breasts in public is classic. Shouts out to Nigel D from RealTalkNY for capturing the footage.

Watch “Snoop Dogg Berates Fan”

“Like that Bron-Bron?”

We know sports fans are buried in Carmelo Anthony fever, for better or worse today. But did you know the Miami Heat have been doing their player introductions to an instrumental of C-Murder’s “Down 4 My Niggaz” each night? The good folks at the FreeDarko collective did. They wrote an interesting piece about the subliminal racial and socio-economical undertones of LeBron, D-Wade and Chris Bosh taking the court to an instrumental of a song now devoid of the chorus, “Fuck them other niggas / Cuz I’m down for my niggaz.”

“Grown Man Business”

There was a time when rappers assumed getting your grown man on referred to buying a trendy, button-down, oxford shirt to go with your jeans and Air Force One’s. But The Huffington Post takes a look at what happens when Hip Hop goes from Public Enemy’s message of fighting the power to making a valid attempt to reclaim real political power. Chicago’s Che “Rhymefest” Smith, West Lawn’s Hector Gonzalez (of “University of Hip Hop” fame), Rafael Vargas of the 43rd Ward, and Chi-Rock Nation’s Brian Sleet are all profiled.

A 90's emcee releases the "Violenttimes Day" sequel and shows he's not going to stay away.

Smooth Da Hustler also known by his government name, Damon Smith, was once signed to Profile Records. Some fans may recall his 1996 release Once Upon a Time in America. Sadly, he maintained a low profile for years. About 12 years later, Smoothe finally unveiled Violenttimes Day, an album he put out on SMG Entertainment.

Now, the Hustler's unleashing Violenttimes Day 2. This release can be heard here. For a These Are Our Heroes interview with Smoothe, check here.

The tracklist for the new project is below.

3. DANGER
4. DIE 2NITE

Trey Songz Sued Over "Bottoms Up" Track

Trey Songz Sued Over

Trey Songz and Atlantic Records may find themselves in the courtroom as they were recently sued over the song "Bottoms Up."

Looks like R&B sensation Trey Songz may end up feeling the wrath of the law. News broke earlier today that the singer and his label Atlantic Records were recently named in an $18 million lawsuit over one of his most popular hit singles "Bottoms Up."

According to AllHipHop.com, Derrick Price, Doc Mob Records and iHip Hop Music are currently suing Songz, his label and producer Kane Beatz over the Nicki Minaj-featured track. Reports indicate that Doc Mob had hired producer Tony Scales to produce the original copyrighted track for his Doc Mob imprint. The track, which was recorded in Derrick Price's home studio, eventually ended up in the hands of producer Kane Beatz, who added elements to the song.

The plaintiffs have stated that although Kane Beatz did contribute to the final version of the song, the original producer Tony Scales was not credited to any capacity with its production on Trey Songz's album Passion, Pain and Pleasure. They also said that Atlantic Records and their artist allegedly ignored a series of cease-and-desist letters that they had sent prior to the suit.

Yet Songz, Kane Beatz and Atlantic Records aren't the only parties mentioned in the suit. The trio of plaitiffs is also suing Trey Songz's manager Gee Robertson and Kodak, who used the song in an advertising campaign featuring the popular singer.

DX will keep you updated as these legal proceedings continue to unfold. *
